Welcome to NWBEN
- Building opportunities for young people to achieve a sustainable career
The Organisation
North West Business Education Network (North West BEN) is one of approximately 200 Local Community Partnerships across Australia, an element under the Career Advice Australia initiative funded through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. North West BEN's role is to partner with industry and employer groups, schools, professional career advisers, community organisations, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government and community organisations to assist young people aged 13-19 years in the Ryde, Ku-ring-gai and Hunters Hill areas to gain the skills, experience and professional guidance and build community capacity to support these young people to achieve a successful transition through school, and from school to further education, training and employment.
What do we do?
We are passionate about supporting young people, 13-19 years of age, with opportunities to help them to plan their progress from school to future pursuits in study and work. We want them to have the knowledge, skills and attitude to build a sustainable and enjoyable future.
The basis of these programs relies on building partnerships with industry bodies and businesses who are willing to offer support through:
- Structured work placements
- Business/School enterprise projects
- Mentoring
- Industry presentations
- Industry competitions
- Provision of Resources;
- Industry expos;
- Media projects;
- Parent and educators information sessions
- Other projects and programsTargeting the Sydney's North/West Region
These are acheived through our three programs:
Adopt a School Program (ASP)
The program aims to build networks between schools and business enterprises to benefit employers and to support young people in their choice of future career directions whether they be further study or work.
Career and Transition Support Program (CTS)
Through the Career and Transition Support Program local businesses assist youth (13-19 yo), parents and carers, and educators to learn about the latest trends in industry, careers and jobs available, and pathways into these careers.
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
Under the Structured Workplace Learning Program, and employer offers a student/s the opportunity to work as voluntary employees for 35 hours (usually in one week) in an area of business for which they are studying a Vocational Education and Training Course (TAFE Certificate) as a part of their HSC.
